Only 2 weeks left

As summer winds down and we get ready for school, I am panicking that we haven't done all that we want to do this summer.  I get sad thinking about my kids heading back to school.  Yesterday at the pool, there were so many photo opps (Lola running her hand along the fence, Lola jumping in the water, Matalley sitting with her back to me enjoying a snack, Grayson running and diving into the pool) that I missed and I think about how much older they will be the next time we are spending a summer at the pool.  Lola is in love with the water and happily jumps around by herself for at least an hour before coming up to the side for a snack. It's just these little moments that keep playing out in my head and I know I will long for these days in 20 years.

They have been playing "Settlers and Indians" all week thanks to their jaunt at Fort Parker last weekend.  Lots of guns and hiding behind objects.  They threw Q-tips all over the bathroom to kill a spider (it was like bow and arrows...spider didn't stand a chance).  Lola usually gets to play the Indian.  Here are some pictures from that day that I've finally uploaded.  I know Mimi loved the opportunity to tell the story and the kids hung onto every word, asking lots of good questions.  For example, after hearing that all the settlers died, Matalley said, "well then who burried them?"  I think it stumped Mimi but she explained that there must have been a few settlers who stayed hidden until the Indians were gone:)

I have this exact picture of Grayson when he was 2 at Ft. Parker in this same pose:)

The spring was dry...
Before we left for our trip, we had to say goodbye to some good friends that are moving to Alaska.  They were our first friends when we moved to Amarillo and Grayson and Cooper were born within a couple months of each other.  We will miss them lots. (I did find it quite funny that the boys played video games and barely gave each other a hug as they said goodbye).
Today we are hosting a lunch for Matalley's preschool teacher.  About a week after school let out, I found Matalley crying at midnight about never seeing Ms. Stacy again.  I promised her we would see her again and then in a moment of desperation promised to have her over for lunch. Of course Matalley remembered that and has asked most days this summer if it was the day we were having her over.  She remembers everything except where the laundry basket is:)
