Then we made Easter bread with them (Yaya's bread is way better but to get her recipe precisely is next to impossible).
We've been watching 'The Bible' series on the history channel which has made for some interesting conversations at our house. I would not recommend the bloody violence images to anyone under 10 but I already broke the rule for my kids and so far we're okay. Matalley had the hardest time with King Herrod's decree to kill all the babies in Jerusalem and Grayson was stuck on Samson's forced(brutally) blindness. It has all brought a new meaning to the Easter story for my kids. I think the Easter story cookies (Divinity) made more sense to them...the beating of the pecans signifying the soldiers beating Jesus, how bad the vinegar would have been to drink, the sugar sweetness of Jesus' love covering up the unappetizing bitterness of sin represented by vinegar, salt, and eggs.
As a side note, on Thursday we went to Maundy Thursday service. Matalley wanted to join us instead of staying in the nursery until she asked us, "Wait, is it where all they do is talk about the bible?, because that's boring."
We still enjoyed Easter bunny goodies first thing Sunday morning. Nothing like chocolate bunnies for breakfast, right Lola?
We spent the afternoon with Bobo, Pops, and Tia.
And no heads are cut off (but we did get a nice shot of the roof instead of the rest of our legs, bet you were wondering what color the porch siding was;).
Lola was excited to see some eggs.
Because she knew there would be candy inside them. Serious benefits to being the third child.
Matalley did eventually find the green one but it was almost an upset when Grayson came to help her get it down and she thought he was reaching for it for his basket.
Grayson was a superstar money counter when dividing up the haul evenly (McDannel family tradition!).
At home, we had an egg hunt with confetti eggs and playful war afterwards,
until the sugar high was over and the days events too long for some tired kiddos who just wanted Easter to go on forever. Praise God that every day is a new beginning because of His love!
