School Days

Matalley and I have had a tough time with Grayson starting school. We are finally hitting our stride though. Last Tuesday, Matalley got to go to school. She was so excited, she put her backpack on first thing (even though school didn't start for another hour). Today they learned about the letter 's'...every letter makes a sound and 's' makes sssss. (She shares what she has learned much better than her older bro).

I am adjusting to my boy's cryptic conversations, trying to pick up what I can. Last week he talked about making up with a girl (it means becoming friends) and breaking up means they don't play together anymore. It took me a few days to figure all that out...kind of stressed me out when I first heard him mention it, especially when he said he didn't know her name and that they just played on the bench. I told him he should be playing tag with the boys...no need to just sit at recess. He came back the next day to tell me that they got in a fight (still didn't know her name) because she wanted to play with the boys and he wouldn't let her. I further explained that just because I told him to play with the boys, that didn't mean he couldn't include the girls (I have to be more careful about how I say things). "Oh," he said.

Today during parent teacher conferences we learned that he is doing extremely well academically and making friends well as a leader in the class. Yay!

Lola is sweet and happy.
After questioning her sense of humor, we figured out what makes her laugh...not me. I've tried everything but don't' get so much as a 'huh.' Matalley however is the class clown by jumping up on a chair...if only I had known.
