My boys are home!
They spent the weekend driving to and from Waco on treacherous stretches of icy roads all in an attempt to watch the final home game for Baylor at Floyd Casey Stadium. Baylor beat UT 30 to 10. While they almost didn't make it in time to see the game, they arrived in time to watch the 4th quarter and all the hoopla after when Baylor was named Big 12 champs and given the invite to the Fiesta Bowl. Grayson met some of the players and defensive tackle Suleiman Masumbuko gave Grayson his game gloves...pretty cool souvenir. The temps were in the low 20's so I'm not sure they would have lasted the whole game anyway. It is crazy that they drove all that way (5 hours Friday and 9 hours Saturday), 20 mph or less in some stretches just for a few minutes of the game but it was definitely worth the memories. They spent almost as much time driving back going a route that circled around all the bad weather but at least they didn't have to face anymore crazy ice. I was VERY happy to see them!! Sadly, Grayson missed all three of his basketball games here at home (we were hoping he'd only miss one) and they didn't get to visit with any of the Waco or Groesbeck family and they didn't get to see the BU basketball Men beat Kentucky(#3) in Dallas or see Matalley's choir performance...best laid plans.
We girls didn't waste our time moping about the house (though it would have been warmer since it was too cold here too), we had a fun storytime at Barnes and Noble,
breakfast with Santa,
choir practice, the gym, games, present wrapping, watching the game (of course!), a date night at the grocery store and lunch with Bobo and Pops.
Matalley sang in the church choir this morning at church...Lessons in Carols. She is such a performer...loved the limelight and smiled so sweetly through the whole performance. Matt told her last night that he wouldn't be able to make it back in time and she said, "That's okay Daddy, you already saw me sing." (How come she doesn't have that same attitude when her sock line is on her toe in such a way that she can't walk or put her shoes on or do anything but cry?). She sat through the 1.5 hour service without a peep (and Lola did too) and then sat through it again for the second service. I was so impressed.
Matt grew a beard for No Shave November and then shaved part of it for an office contest. While I think he looks a little funny with a mustache, Lola was happy to have most of the scratchy part gone.
We ended the weekend with a family dinner out that was lots of fun and a short viewing of Christmas lights. So, although I think we all would have preferred a different weather pattern for the weekend, it ended up being worth the drive. Anyone going to the Fiesta Bowl?
