Spring Break Fun

After my fiasco of a day Monday, we left Tuesday for a perfect family vacation, well not perfect...it could have been longer, but quite enjoyable for the short trip we took. It was the first trip we've ever taken as a family (since Matt and I went on our honeymoon almost 15 years ago) for just pure vacation...no visiting other family or work. We got up Tuesday not too early, packed and headed out to Clinton, OK Indoor waterpark. We made a small stop in Shamrock, TX since it was leprechaun day to get some luck for the trip.
It worked. It's also home to the Conoco gas station made famous in the movie 'Cars.'
Some year, we'll be in Shamrock for the parade and weekend St. Patrick's day festivities.
The waterpark was just right for our age range. Lola was quite timid at first, refusing to go on any slide but the short orange ones that Millie was using. By the end of the night, she was bee lining it up three flights of stairs to the top of a swirly pink slide with no floaties. Grayson's ear held up just fine with his plug, I think. He lost it once in the water and a bunch of gross drainage came flowing out but it seemed to stay dry the rest of the time and as far as I can tell, he can still hear. Matalley loved the lazy river which is indicative of her deliberate personality. After 4 hours of the waterpark, the kids were starving for a late night pizza dinner in our hotel.
The next day we took a trip to OKC for a zoo day.

The animals were all really active due to the cooler weather.
We saw a charging rhino, spent lots of times with the apes, and chilled with the elephants. The baby is just 2 months old.
Grayson read every plaque and was able to tell you the names of each animal (according to zoo staff photos).

While the girls went to the movies and saw Cinderella and Frozen Fever, the boys went to the Boston Celtics/Oklahoma Thunder game. Sadly, Grayson's favorite player, Kevin Durant, didn't play due to a foot injury earlier this season, but they had AMAZING seats and the Thunder won.

Grayson was happy (which was the whole point since the game was a birthday present from August). We also spent a few hours at the fun hotel pool. And for whatever reason hotel breakfasts are so much better than breakfast at home even if it's exactly the same stuff.

The next day we spent 5 hours at the kids' science museum. It's massive and we could have spent more time if not for rumbly tummies and the daunting trip home. The indoor tree house taught us all about pulleys and levers.

There were Segway race tracks, a sleeper train car,
flight simulator,
Olympic obstacle course, mind games, grossology, planetarium, and science experiments galore.

Sunday, the kids seemed color blind. Grayson came out in plaid shorts with a plaid top of different colors and tones, Matalley chose a purple top that says peace and love with a neon green Mennonite skirt, yellow and orange striped socks and neon yellow dress shoes that are meant for summer and a half size too big. Lola chose hot pink and grey polka dot leggings with a pastel floral print dress and flip flops. I wanted a sign that said, "Don't judge my Mom, we dress ourselves" sign. But Matalley said she chose her top because peace and love are fruits of the spirit and doesn't God love color?
Tonight Grayson asked me if he needed facial surgery to fix his face...some kooky girl in his class told him he did in order to get a girlfriend. Grayson wisely mentioned that having a girlfriend in elementary school was stupid since you probably wouldn't even be friends in college. I gave him a high five and told him he is smartest third grader I know (but seriously, 3rd grade mean girls....I can't handle it). I want to go back to spring break. So much fun:)
