Creative Writing

The kids have been channeling their creativity gene (not from me) to become accomplished authors. Matalley published a book for Lola's birthday. It was a very sweet gift.

The last page said "The End" which is a perfect conclusion when you are in first grade. I love it. I made Grayson submit a poem to a writing contest. I actually encouraged him to write a short story but he decided a poem would do (probably because it's the shortest thing he could do without ignoring my request). His poem:

Quesadillas

I like Quesadillas
They are tortillas
They have Meat,
they don't have feet.
They have cheese,
they don't tease.
I like Quesadillas
and you should too!

Getting him to submit anything was a bit of a challenge. My rationale for entering the contest is that if he enters it every year, he may get a scholarship for college. Grayson immediately whined and said, "But I don't want to get a writing scholarship." I then had to explain that "it is just free money, it doesn't mean you have to go to school for writing, it's not a basketball scholarship." To which he replied, "No Mom, I want a football scholarship." And so I am quite pleased with 'Quesadillas.'

I had the privilege of accompanying my girls to the church women's tea a couple weekends ago. Millie actually kept her hat on for most of the morning and proceeded to eat an entire bag of m&ms that did not melt in her mouth as well as they melted on her hands and clothes.
Lola refused to wear a hat and had a complete meltdown before church but I finally convinced her to wear a hat barrette.
The tea was so much fun and so very loud. The ladies at our church were wonderful hostesses. And even though I didn't get to talk to anyone else because of m&m girl and making sure the older girls were being careful, I was extremely appreciative of the event.
